Boston, MA, November 14, 2017 – ZappRx, a healthcare technology company that reduces the administrative burden associated with prescribing specialty medications, today announced the appointment of Rich Kramer to Vice President of Commercial Operations. Within his new role, Kramer will report directly to Sandy DiCesare, Chief Operating Officer of ZappRx, and will lead ZappRx’s provider sales team as it continues implementing the platform into physician practices, health systems, and clinics across the United States.
Most recently, Kramer served as VP of Sales at Upfront Healthcare, an early-stage healthcare technology startup, where he led commercialization of the company’s product. Prior to Upfront, Kramer was Director of Sales at Orien Health, where he helped the company evolve its sales strategy from solely focusing on state and municipalities to selling into massive health systems and providers practices. Before Orien, Kramer served in multiple roles at PatientKeeper, where he single-handedly sold $60 million of the company’s services and brought into two of the largest health systems in the country as keystone clients.
“We are thrilled to welcome Rich to the ZappRx team. He brings extensive expertise and knowledge of the healthcare space to his new role, and I’m excited to have him on board” said Zoë Barry, founder and CEO of ZappRx. “At a pivotal time of growth for the team, Rich will enable us to work with more and larger provider organizations, while overseeing the growth and success of the sales team. Rich will play an essential role in helping us achieve our overarching mission of getting drugs to patients faster and improving their health.”
As VP of Commercial Operations for ZappRx, Kramer will be in charge of driving provider adoption, particularly within large health systems where he has a breadth of relationships and deep experience closing similar contracts. Kramer will also determine the structure of the sales team and oversee its expansion as the platform continues to expand into new disease areas and treatments.
“ZappRx is bringing direct value to doctors and patients, impacting their day to day work and making their lives significantly easier,” said Kramer. “That makes the job fun, and I’m excited to hit the ground running and lead the team to enable health systems to not only improve their own strategy, but most importantly to make a direct impact on improving patient care.”

ZappRx streamlines the complex process required to order specialty medications, increasing efficiencies when collecting and maintaining the myriad requisite information for specialty prescribing — including pharmacy information, payer/prior authorization requirements, and relevant clinical history. ZappRx then enables providers, pharmacists, and payers to digitally interact with one another to fill a prescription, reducing the need for faxes and phone calls. The platform is currently live in three disease areas, including Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), and Cystic Fibrosis, with plans to expand to support prescribing for other areas, including gastroenterology, rheumatology, neurology, and oncology conditions.
